Mohammed Amin

Mohammed Amin MBE FRSA MA FCA AMCT CTA(Fellow) was born in Pakistan but has lived in the European city of Manchester since 1952. From an early interest in classical mythology and studying Latin at school, Amin grew up immersed in European history and describes himself as “a classical European liberal.”

Amin believes that the citizens of a democracy are obliged to be politically engaged, and has himself been fascinated by politics since the age of 10, supporting a variety of political parties over the years, including the Socialist Labour League and the Liberal Party, before spending 36 years in the Conservative Party. He resigned the day it chose Mr Johnson as its leader, and since October 2019, he has been a Liberal Democrat.

As well as CSEV, Amin has leadership roles in the Islam & Liberty Network, the National Muslim War Memorial Trust, and the Muslim Jewish Forum of Greater Manchester, amongst other organisations.

His personal website, www.mohammedamin.com, gives more details of his life journey from the slums of Moss Side in Manchester to Cambridge University and his career, which culminated with being a partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers. It also contains his writings and speeches, including his explanation of why the UK needs to remain a member of the European Convention on Human Rights.
